On Ollie

Ollie Jones is a friend of my friend Henrietta, who knows everything. So, it made sense to include one of her friends who is young, smart and knows what’s up.

A place very close to my heart as it is where I fell in love with food and wine. I didn’t go to university so I look at this place as mine. It’s still one of my favourite places to eat in London. I love going here for special occasions. Or sitting outside in the summer and having a lovely al fresco lunch. Get something out of the wood oven and the fresh pasta. This restaurant has been at the top of its game for 33 years.

Styled on the tapas bars of Barcelona. A great spot to eat fresh fish and drink sherry. You might have to queue as you can only sit at the bar, but it’s well worth it. There are now a few of them dotted around London, but my favourite is Drury lane. They also have lovely private rooms downstairs for bigger parties.

Best place for lunch in London. Sharing plates and probably some of the finest produce you will find in London. Fish straight from the sea and sometimes caught that morning. Fruit picked by the chefs in the summer. Very nice and relaxed atmosphere with an interesting wine list. Best day is Saturday lunch. Then you can wonder around all the great pubs of Shoreditch. Best dish if it is on the menu is mussels in cider butter.

Used to love going to this place on Sundays. Walk down to the flower market and then finish with lunch here. Sadly it is closed on Sundays now, but it is still a must. Have a pint at the Royal Oak before then head here for dinner. Very lovely, relaxed neighborhood restaurant with great food.

It’s in an old school in Shoreditch. Run by two women. The daily changing menu is very simple but utterly delicious. Hopefully the sun is out and you can sit outside. It makes you feel as though you’re not in London.

My favourite bakery in London. I love the one in Hoxton. Get a cinnamon bun and coffee. Will change your world. It’s an open bakery so you can see them working at the same time.

Best Thai food in London with a very exciting beer/whisky list. Sit at the bar and order the crab noodles as well as other things. Watch out as can get quite spicy! Great to see how the chefs use the special pots from Thailand to cook.

One of my favourite pubs in London. Great design and great beer. In my opinion, they have the best Sunday roast in London. The lamb is the standout. It is slowed cooked for about 12 hours before being served. Have a drink downstairs first then go to the dining room. Then finish with more drinks downstairs!
